Stretch Mark Physiology

What To Look Out For In The Postdelivery Period
After delivery of the baby, a mother will go through a certain period known as the postdelivery or postpartum. This is the six-week period after delivery wherein your body will normally go through physical and biological conditions. Most of the occurrences are normal and does not cause serious health problems. The condition you are going through is just a manifestation that your body has previously gone through a normal reproductive state, which is pregnancy. The usual postpartum experiences are characterized by the following:
Tightening and soreness of the breasts
Blood discharge with blood clots
Flabby abdomen
Stretch marks and darkening of some areas of the skin
Frequent urination immediately after child delivery
Difficulty in bowel discharge
Mild depression
These experiences are normal after delivery and after a while, these symptoms usually go away except for the stretch marks, which take years to fade especially without intervention. However, there are certain postpartum complications that need proper attention such as:
Disproportionate bleeding. Although it is normal to have a bloody discharge a few weeks after delivery, the amount of blood discharged should not be alarmingly excessive. Too much bleeding means that there is something wrong with your uterus. This is a serious condition that needs attention because this could lead to hemorrhage or profuse bleeding.
You should also be wary about possible infections child delivery may cause such as infections in certain internal organs, breast, and genital area. Pay particular attention to unusual or colored discharges, pain in the abdominal area and other unusual physical manifestations.
Women who have given birth normally experience depression during the postpartum period. If your depression extends to several months after delivery, it is no longer usual and may require professional attention.
Another aspect that needs to be looked into is your ability to breastfeed. Normally, after giving birth, your breasts are expected to give out breast milk to feed your newborn but if your breasts do not start dripping with milk, you might have inverted nipples or other physiological or biological problems that has to be checked.
What to Do
A woman’s body is a beautiful yet mysterious creation. Some postpartum experiences and condition may vary from woman to woman. But if you feel like what you are experiencing is no longer normal, you can always seek for professional help to explain your condition or to get you thoroughly examined. Some infections and postpartum complications are life threatening and could lead to permanent damage.
Medical Service at Its Best
There are several ways to get a medical and professional advice. There are forums available on the Internet where you can share your experiences or get ideas from other women who might have undergone the same postpartum experience. If you feel that something is not right with you, consult with your doctor right away or contact a qualified medical expert.
